Google and Urban Dictionary only support popularity for the generic "rushing to defend a female" description, there is nothing to corroborate that it's well known for this meaning outside the world of punting.
White Knight: Internet slang for a forum member that rushes to a defend a prostitute after she has been criticised or poorly reviewed.
